To view or open an HTML file, or if you are unable to open an index.html file from the command line, do the following:

  1. Make sure you are using the most up to date version of the IDE. If you are using the Learn IDE download, go to Learn IDE 3  --> Check for Update  in the IDE menu bar. If you are using the Learn IDE Atom Packages, go to Packages --> Learn IDE 3  --> Check for Update
  2. Run httpserver from the command line and then navigate to the address you are given, which should look something like this: Serving HTTP on 159.203.117.55:3107. Navigate to 159.203.117.55:3107 in the browser and it should show you the file.

To stop the server from running so you can use the terminal again, just click into the command line and press ctrl + c.

If for some reason the above is not working, you can try adding an Atom package, like https://atom.io/packages/open-html-in-browser which will allow you to right-click and open the file in your default browser.

To access a local development server started in the IDE with the rackup , shotgun , or rails s commands, check out this Help Center article.
